This project aimed to capture images for a feature on tin smiths in Kuching city. Through documentary-style photography, the work explored the craftsmanship, tools, and techniques of tin smiths, highlighting their unique trade and its significance. The images documented the creation of various items, such as lamps, mailboxes, storage bins, and coffee pots, showcasing the artistry of the trade.
Captured in 2017 across Kuching city’s Carpenter Street, China Street, and Bishop’s Gate, this project was commissioned by Malaysia.my to tell the story of the tin smiths of Kuching. The project offered a rare look into the traditional techniques and tools still in use today.
